Powertek's flagship XPE is a purpose-built heavy-duty excavator — one engine, one hydraulic system, engineered to feed a 600 HP cutterhead full power while the operator keeps full control. No tradeoff, no overheating, no throttling back.
The XPE Excavator Talk to Powertek
XPE-200-575 — carrier, hydraulics, guarding, and cutterhead, built as one machine in Concord.
The flagship
The XPE isn't an excavator adapted to run a mulching head — it's engineered around the head from the first weld. Available in 20-ton and 26-ton configurations, every XPE ships as a matched bundle with the cutterhead that runs on it.
Need production power sooner?
The fastest route to production power in the lineup: a self-contained CAT C13B power unit, built and installed by Powertek in Concord. We keep the engine, radiator, and hydraulic pump in stock.
HT-575 on a CAT 325F — production power on the carrier you already own.
Why Powertek exists
Run a high-horsepower mulching head on a stock excavator and the same thing happens every time: the attachment runs below its rating, the hydraulics overheat, and the operator throttles back to keep the carrier alive. The job takes longer. Production slips. Maintenance climbs.
Contractors don't want another adapted excavator. They want a heavy-duty machine with enough hydraulic horsepower, flow, and cooling to run any high-HP attachment — including a 600 HP cutterhead — without choosing between attachment performance and machine control.
That is exactly what Powertek builds.

See it work
An HT-575-powered Powertek head taking standing timber to the ground and mulching it in place — no felling crew ahead of it, no second pass behind it. This is what a head does when it actually receives the horsepower it's rated for.

The equipment
The flagship. One engine, one hydraulic system, engineered around the work tool. 200 GPM @ 5,000 PSI.
CAT C13B, 577 HP. The fast path to production power on the carrier you already own — installed by Powertek.
CAT C9.3B, 456 HP, 150 GPM @ 5,000 PSI. Matched to mid-size carriers and heads.
High-torque forestry cutterheads matched to the machine and the application.
Every machine is built to order — contact Powertek for current pricing and lead times.
Running a Shinn unit?
Shinn Systems got out of the game in 2024 — and sends their customers to us. Our Concord shop manufactured the Shinn power pack and cutterhead from 2013 to 2024, and our founder engineered the electrical controls and hydraulics on the line since 1998. We hold the design specs for every legacy configuration.
If the engine runs, we can make the rest of it new — for a fraction of the cost of a new unit. Modern hydraulics, an all-digital control panel, and Powertek Connect on your existing iron.
Built in our shop, private-labeled to Shinn — eleven years of OEM-grade manufacturing on this product family.
Every Powertek build ships with Powertek Connect — live machine data on your phone, tablet, or laptop, and the support team in Concord reading the same feed. When something needs attention, you often hear it from us first.
Who's behind it
Powertek's founder, Ron McMurphy, spent 25 years installing every major mulching head, crusher, and drill on every standard excavator carrier in the field — and engineering the hydraulics and controls behind the machines that started this category. He watched the same hydraulic shortfall break the same job, the same way, on every project. The Powertek platform is his answer: carrier, hydraulics, attachment, cooling, controls, and service, engineered as one system.
